2011 Charlotte Student Hunger Drive
Charlotte, N.C. - Beginning today, Sixteen Mecklenburg County high schools, including 11 from
- Beginning today, Sixteen Mecklenburg County high schools, including 11 from
CMS, will begin packing boxes and loading all the food they have collected during the six week
Student Hunger Drive food drive competition. Students have been participating in this friendly but
fierce competition since October 3rd and now is the time to load up the trucks full of food bound for
Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina and its participating local emergency pantries. All the food
will be weighed in at the Food Bank and then students will gather at Second Harvest Food Bank of
Metrolina on Wednesday, November 16th at 5:00 pm for the Awards Rally Presented by Chick-fil-A to
find out who collected the most pounds of food per student. That winning school will receive $2,500
towards their school. Other Awards include: Runner-Up ($1,000) , Most Improved ($500) , Snyders-
Lance Most Creative Collection Event ($500) and a Food Lion MVP Student Award (A $250
Scholarship). Additionally, any school that collected over 5,000 pounds will receive $100 prize.

About Charlotte Student Hunger Drive
The Student Hunger Drive, a non-profit organization was founded in 1986 and has collected over 13
million pounds of food valued at over $24 million since its inception. The Charlotte-based organization
founded in 2010, is based on the same model of the original Student Hunger Drive and collected over
50,000 lbs in its inaugural year. The Charlotte Student Hunger Drive, strives to develop young
community leaders while feeding those in need in Mecklenburg and surrounding counties. Its mission
is to unite and empower area high school students in the commitment to feed the hungry and promote
