THANK YOU for
wanting to help Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina in the battle against
hunger in our area. We truly appreciate your help.Your support is important and
valuable. One hour of your time provides the Food Bank with $21.79 in labor
savings.
SHFBM is the largest hunger fighting agency in 19 counties of North
and South Carolina. Last year, we distributed over 38 million pounds of food
and grocery items to individuals in need through our almost 600 partner
agencies. We could not do what we do without volunteers! Volunteers help us
sort, inspect and pack food and other items for distribution to people at risk
of hunger. Last year almost 30,000 volunteers donated over 90,000 hours and
there was still work to be done!
All volunteers must schedule in advance. SHFBM is open for
volunteers from 9am to 12 noon and 1 to 4pm Monday-Friday, Saturdays from 9am
to 12 noon, and 6 to 8pm on Thursdays. Evenings and weekends fill up first.
Volunteers are asked to work a minimum 2 hour shift; either 9 to 11am or 1 to
3pm.
Please arrive on time for your shift. There is an orientation
for each volunteer activity at the beginning of each shift that is mandatory in
order to participate. Latecomers may not be able to work with their group. In
rare cases, late arrivals may be turned away.
We are a working warehouse
with heavy equipment in operation. For safety reasons, our minimum age is 12 years old with
parent, one adult for every 6 teenagers 13 to 16 years of age and 17 year olds
are treated as adults and may come on their own. Youth volunteers (Minimum age
of 12) can schedule for our Saturday morning shifts (9am-12 noon) or our
Thursday evening shifts (6-8pm). We host Saturday morning shifts every weekend,
and we host Thursday evening shifts every week. These do fill up quickly.
Volunteers may be asked to
do a variety of tasks, depending on the number of volunteers and the need at that time.
Our primary activity is sorting, inspecting, boxing and stocking donations for the
agencies. Other activities may include: packing food boxes and/or food
backpacks for kids or sorting through non-food products and pet food. Please
wear comfortable conservative clothing, CLOSED
TOED SHOES are required.
Thank you for wanting to
help Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina in the fight against hunger in our
