Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for wanting to help Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina in the battle against hunger in our area. Your support is important and valuable. One hour of your time provides the Food Bank with $20.85 in labor savings.

We have two requirements:  All volunteers must schedule in advance, and all volunteers must wear closed toe shoes.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina schedules volunteers weekdays, Thursday evenings and the second and fourth Saturday mornings.  Monday through Friday, there are two shifts, 9am to 12 noon and 1 to 4pm.  If you can only work two hours, we prefer 9 to 11am or 1 to 3pm.  Thursday evenings are 6 to 8pm. The second and fourth Saturday mornings of each month, we work 9am to 12 noon.  Training begins promptly at the start of each shift.  Please arrive a few minutes early to allow time for signing in and making a nametag.  We also suggest carpooling as weekday parking is limited especially in the morning.  Training and materials are provided for all volunteer tasks.

Children 12 years of age  are welcome to come with their parents on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. For ages 13-16, we ask for one adult for every six teens.   Ages 17 and up may come on their own, but no one under 18 is permitted to operate any equipment,  including pallet jacks. We are glad to provide documentation for community service hours needed for school.

Thank you, again, for thinking of us, and don't forget----ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST WEAR CLOSED TOE SHOES!
