(CHARLOTTE, NC) – April 26, 2024 – Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina is pleased to announce it has received a grant from SC Johnson to support the organization’s School-Based Mobile Pantry program which ensures that children have enough nutritious food to eat and come to school prepared to learn. This program provides on-site food for low-income families. Each pantry provides staple goods, produce, meat, eggs, whole grain breads and essential non-food items, on average providing 40-50 pounds of food per family. Those receiving assistance are pre-qualified by the school that their child/children attend, and on average, approximately 200 families attend each drive-through mobile pantry.

“We are so grateful for this grant that SC Johnson has awarded the food bank. Thanks to their gift, our school-based mobile pantries will continue to serve foods high in nutritional value such as fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, eggs and milk, and meat. All these foods help provide a well-balanced diet to high-need individuals and their families.” Notes Kay Carter, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina CEO.
