Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina Receives Lincoln Financial Foundation Support
Foundation Awards a Grant for the Food Bank’s Child Hunger Programs
Charlotte, NC – September 5, 2025 – Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina was awarded a $43,000 grant from Lincoln Financial Foundation in support of the organization’s Child Hunger programs. These key programs serve more than 151,000 children and their families each year.

Whether it is through monetary donations, onsite volunteering, or workplace giving, Lincoln is a wonderful example of a corporation and foundation who understand the need for nutritious food for children who are living in poverty. Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina’s number one goal is to end child hunger, and the organization has developed several key initiatives to help “feed kids.” The Kids Café program provides free meals, snacks, and nutrition education to at-risk children during the school year and summer months. The Backpack program provides a backpack full of nutritious, ready to eat or easy to prepare foods that is sent home on weekends and
holidays when school meals are not available. The Food Bank annually provides over 520,000 backpacks in 22 counties. Lastly, the School-Based Mobile Pantry program is designed to supplement the Backpack program at higher poverty schools in the region. To help ensure that children have enough nutritious food to eat and come to school prepared to learn, this program provides onsite school distributions for low-income families. Each drive-through pantry provides staple goods, produce, meat, eggs, whole grain breads and essential non-food items like toilet paper and diapers, on average providing 40 to 50 pounds of food per family. In FY 2024-2025, the Food Bank conducted 592 mobile pantries delivering over 7 million pounds of food.
