Second Harvest Bank of Metrolina Takes Part in the Great American Egg Drive and Joins Egg Farmers Across America to Help Donate 6 Million Eggs Nationwide

Donation from Simpson’s Eggs and Braswell Family Farms will provide 259,200 eggs to community members

Charlotte, NC (April 2, 2026) — Simpson’s Eggs and Braswell Family Farms donated 259,200 eggs to the Food Bank of Metrolina as part of the Great American Egg Drive, a nationwide eMort bringing egg farmers together to support communities ahead of Easter and Passover—and one of the largest egg donation eMorts ever.

The donation—equal to approximately 21,500 dozen eggs—will provide fresh, nutritious, high-quality protein to individuals and families across 24 counties in North and South Carolina. Eggs will be distributed through Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina’s network of over 950+ partner agencies, including food pantries, community meal programs and shelters.

“We take pride not only in producing food, but also in giving back,” said Alex Simpson, executive vice president of Simpson’s Eggs in Monroe, NC and a fourth-generation egg farmer. “Being part of an eMort that brings egg farmers together to support communities across the country means a great deal to us.”

Simpson’s Eggs provides ongoing donations throughout the year to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.

“Eggs are at the heart of so many spring traditions,” said Trey Braswell, CEO of Braswell Family Farms in Nashville, NC and a fourth-generation egg farmer. “We’re proud to give back and help more families enjoy that connection this season.”

Braswell Family Farms also donated thousands of eggs that are heading to the White House for the annual Easter Egg Roll event on Monday, April 6.

The American Egg Board, on behalf of America’s egg farmers, is leading the Great American Egg Drive—bringing farmers together to give back in communities nationwide during a time of year when eggs play an important role in meals and traditions.

This year, the eMort is expanded through a partnership with HATCH, a nonprofit organization that connects farms with food banks year-round, helping ensure eggs reach the communities where they’re needed most.

“We are so appreciative to our friends at Simpson’s Eggs, Braswell Family Farms, and the American Egg Board, for this generous donation to our food bank, which will support our commitment to provide hunger relief to children, seniors, families, and seniors who are food insecure,” said Kay Carter, CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. “These eggs are an excellent source of protein for our neighbors in need and will help those who are unable to purchase on their own.”

Eggs are one of the most in-demand foods at food banks because they are nature’s perfect protein. Just one egg provides six grams of high-quality protein and 13 essential nutrients, making it a versatile option families can use in a wide variety of meals.

More than 47 million people—including over 14 million children—live in food-insecure households, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
