CHARLOTTE—(November 1, 2016) The Novant Health Thanksgiving Day Parade, an Uptown Charlotte tradition since 1947, is less than a month away.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the parade, and by all measures it is shaping up to be the biggest yet featuring: 31 specialty units, 21 floats, 18 marching bands, 15 balloons, seven segwalloons (a feature unique to Charlotte’s parade), four special guests and one 5’6” walking, royal turkey!

The parade will step off at 9:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day and process north along Tryon Street for nearly a mile between the Levine Avenue of the Arts and 9th Street.

“We are encouraging parade goers to make the Novant Health Thanksgiving Day Parade part of their family tradition,” said Robert Krumbine, Chief Creative Officer for Charlotte Center City Partners and the parade’s executive producer for four years. “You can start your day off watching or volunteering in the parade, have your meal in one of the many Uptown restaurants, go ice skating at Holiday on Ice at The NASCAR Hall of Fame, or shop on opening day at the Charlotte Christmas Village at Romare Bearden Park.”

Approximately 3,500 people from over 100 different organizations will participate in the parade as musicians in marching bands, on floats, in cars, or as volunteers walking the parade route in costumes, handling the giant balloons, or as parade marshals.

Volunteer opportunities, advanced ticket sales, parking and transportation recommendations, parade details, and special promotional deals from Uptown hotels, restaurants, and retailers are all available of the parade app downloadable here: http://www.novanthealththanksgivingparade.com/get-the-app/ or from the iTunes Store or the Android Market.
