Our Vision for Volunteers

SHMETROLINA believes volunteers are vital to the success of the food bank and to our community in need. If you are looking for a way to give back to our community, meet new people, educate yourself about hunger awareness, or participate in a project that feeds hungry children, seniors, families, veterans and pets, then you have found the right place!

We Look Forward to Seeing You Soon - Here's How to Complete Your Volunteer Profile:

Due to a few challenges on our end with the new Volunteer Portal, we have switched back to our original volunteer Cervis calendar. We hope to have everything resolved and the new calendar running soon.If you have forgotten your password, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Betsy Van Dyne, at bvandyne@secondharvest.org or 704-805-1712.

1.  Enter your email and first name.  If your work email does not allow you to enter our online calendar, please consider using a personal cell phone or computer.

2.  The first step for everyone will be completing your individual Volunteer profile.

3.  Individuals:  Select an event, date and shift and register.

4.  Groups:  Once your individual profile is set up, you can then set up your Group. At this point, do not register for a date if you are bringing a group -  set up your group and then include yourself in your group count and register.

Setting up your group - after your individual profile is set up:

Step 1 – Click on the dropdown arrow and click “Create a New Group".

Step 2 - Select an event, a box will pop up asking how many people will be in your group - (no names are needed) You will then be able to schedule your group for available dates. 1 Spot = 1 Person. You will not need anyone’s email address and they do not need to register. You, as the group leader, are scheduling for the entire group.

Once complete, you will get a confirmation which will have your group name and the number of spots reserved.  If you need to cancel, your confirmation will have an easy link to remove your group from our schedule. If you need to change the number of volunteers, please email bvandyne@secondharvest.org.

One week before your scheduled date, please confirm the number of volunteers by emailing our Volunteer Coordinator at bvandyne@secondharvest.org. The system will not allow you to adjust your own count. If you need to cancel a group, please give us at least a 5 day notice.

It's that easy! But if you get stuck, please set up your individual profile and then email our Volunteer Coordinator at bvandyne@secondharvest.org and we will assist with your group set up. Hope to see you all soon!

Wait List:

If you need to reschedule, please make every effort to do so well in advance. This provides an opportunity for those on the wait list to fill your spot.

Remember, the Food Bank counts on our volunteers to help complete the work necessary to feed hungry children, seniors, families, veterans and pets. We are counting on you to show up.

That's it - Please Remember:

- Once your profile is complete, you will not be asked for this information again.

- When you want to volunteer, you will go to the online calendar, sign-in, and choose date(s) that are available.  A confirmation email and a reminder email will be sent to you. It is also very easy to cancel your date, change your date or add your name to a waitlist.

- Families: Each family member that is volunteering must complete a profile.  If you use the same email or phone number, you will be grouped as a family in the system.

Thank You

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. There are many ways to get involved in ending hunger in our region. We could never accomplish all we do without each and every volunteer. One hour of your time provides SHMETROLINA with $25.98 in labor savings. Our annual savings with volunteers like you equals almost $6.9 million dollars! These savings are dollars that are used to feed more hungry people.

SHMETROLINA Is the Largest Hunger Fighting Agency

In 2022-2023 we distributed 78 million pounds of food and household items to individuals in need through our 950+ partner agencies in 14 counties in NC and 10 counties in SC. Last year, over 76,000 volunteers donated over 265,000 hours and there is still more work to be done!
