Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina Partners with Kellogg Company to launch digital food drive to engage people in fighting hunger

In a world where we produce enough food for everyone, how can more than 820 million people, or one in eight in America, struggle with hunger? According to Feeding America, the opportunity is two-fold: getting food to people in need, and making sure hunger relief organizations receive the foods they need to make the greatest impact.

Facing new evidence from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UNFAO) that world hunger continues to rise, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina is participating in a digital food drive on Amazon.com in partnership with Kellogg Company that will make it easier than ever for people to help fight hunger by donating 10 foods hungry families request most.

Beginning on World Food Day, October 16, and running through Giving Tuesday, on November 27, people can easily "click, ship and donate" these non-perishable grocery items to a participating Feeding America location using a special www.Kelloggs.com/FightingHunger donation page.

We're excited to deploy the power of e-commerce to drive food donations in the Food Bank's 19 county service area (14 counties in NC and 5 counties in SC) and welcome the opportunity to discuss how this exciting collaboration is helping to feed people in need.

These are the most needed items that you can donate through the Amazon.com digital food drive:

- Canned proteins (tuna, chicken, beef, turkey)
- Canned or boxed meals (soups, stews, ravioli, mac & cheese)
- Canned vegetables & fruit
- Cereal (hot & cold)
- Dried beans
- Peanut butter and nut butters
- Dry or canned pasta
- Pasta sauce
- Rice
- Shelf stable milk
