Dear Food Bank Friends,
In March of 2020 we could not have imagined a year like the one we just completed. COVID literally changed “everything.” At Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina we have lost count of all of the times we have had to pivot. The need has been higher than ever with children missing school meals, seniors quarantined safely at home and unable to enjoy meals at congregate feeding sites, and families impacted by job cuts and work hour reductions.
At the same time the need has escalated with some estimates indicating that 100,000 more people entered poverty in our 24 county region, we have had less donated food and fewer volunteers to help us perform the work. But thanks to each of you, we have been able to feed so many hungry children, seniors, families, veterans and pets.
I wish I could tell you that our work is done but we are only beginning. The impact will continue long after the vaccines are in arms and the community has reopened. Please continue to help us as much as you can in 2021 as we work to feed our community. You are essential in making sure that our neighbors have enough to eat every single day. We are thankful for you.
