Harris Teeter & Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina Kick Off Harvest Feast Marathon! A Two-Weekend Long Food/Fund Drive Event Feeding our Hungry Neighbors

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – On Friday, November 10th at 10:00 a.m., Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina kicks off their annual holiday food drive, Harvest Feast Marathon, presented by Harris Teeter, WBTV, WRFX 99.7 (an iHeart Media Station), WCCB Charlotte, Smart Chicken, and Lake Norman Chrysler|Dodge|Jeep|RAM. The food drive takes place at the Harris Teeter Stonecrest on Rea Road for two weekends: Friday, November 10th – Saturday, November 11th (10 a.m. – 5 p.m. both days) and Friday, November 17th – Saturday, November 18th (10 a.m. – 5 p.m. both days). Each Saturday of the food drive will incorporate fun and FREE things for families…and you MAY meet a super hero during your visit!

Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina (SHFBM) is hopeful that this year’s drive will bring in much needed
holiday food items – turkeys, hams, stuffing, canned vegetables, etc. along with funds which they will be used to purchase 7 pounds of food with for every $1 donated. This will help SHFBM supply holiday food to over 700 agencies that they serve in a 19 county – 14 counties in North Carolina and 5 counties in South Carolina.

The kick-off event incorporates a fun and quick shopping event for local media personalities to compete – including Maureen O’Boyle (WBTV), Jon Wilson and Derek James (WCCB Charlotte), Brad Panovich (WCNC), Nick Kosir (Fox 46) and more! The emcee for the shopping challenge is iHeart Media and WRFX 99.7’s Jeff Kent. It’s a fun way for our media partners to come together to share the need and to work together to share the mission to end hunger throughout our communities.

If you can’t make it to the marathon, individuals can make a donation at all Harris Teeter stores through November 30th. Bins have been placed at the entrance of all Harris Teeter store locations for non-perishable food donations. To give shoppers another donation option, Harris Teeter is also selling $1, $5 and $20 donation cards at each of its stores. Financial donations will be converted into gift cards that the food bank can use throughout the year.

With over 527,000 people in our 19 county region living at or below the poverty level, and 188,000 of those being children and 41,000 seniors, the holiday season is the perfect time to share our resources with those less fortunate.
